Tell them you found them through Western Trail Rider.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hondoo.com\" target=\"_blank\">Hondoo Rivers and Trails<\/a>, Torrey, Utah, is an outfitter in south-central Utah, where great trails are abundant and the scenery never ends. Tell them Tony from WTR sent you.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.coppercloudranch.com\/\">Copper Cloud Ranch<\/a>, formerly known as Paria Canyon Guest Ranch, is located about 22 miles west of Page, Arizona, off of US89. They are set up for horse camping, with full hookups, as well as tent and RV camping. Showers and laundry available. You can bring your own horses, or use theirs, for a fee, of course. Some of the most spectacular riding you will ever see, through Paria Canyon and the Escalante Grand Staircase National Monument. Let them know where you found them. Let them know you found them on Western Trail Rider.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 1.285714286rem; line-height: 1.6;\">Websites and Forums<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"bare-foot-horses.com\" href=\"http:\/\/bare-foot-horses.com\" target=\"_blank\">Bare-Foot-Horses.com<\/a>\u00a0is a web site dedicated to teaching both farrier and horse owners about barefoot trimming for horses. Dwayne Moates, of \u00a0Moore, Idaho, does a fine job of providing a &#8220;how-to&#8221; tutorial for barefoot trimming that is easy to follow and apply. Nothing mysterious and not overly technical. He also provides links to other helpful sites, such as Pete Ramey&#8217;s <a title=\"Pete Ramey's hoofrehab.com\" href=\"http:\/\/hoofrehab.com\" target=\"_blank\">hoofrehab.com<\/a>, which he cites as one of his information sources. Both web sites are highly educational for those of us who do our own hoof care.<a title=\"Extreme Outlaw Rides | Wild West Mustang Ranch\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/extremeoutlawrides?fref=ts\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Want to adopt a BLM mustang?\u00a0<a title=\"Extreme Outlaw Rides | Wild West Mustang Ranch\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/extremeoutlawrides?fref=ts\" target=\"_blank\">West Taylor<\/a>\u00a0it the man to talk to. He is a certified trainer for BLM. He hand picks his horses, trains them and puts them up for public adoption. Check out his facebook page at\u00a0<a title=\"Extreme Outlaw Rides\/Wild West Mustang Ranch\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/extremeoutlawrides\" target=\"_blank\">Extreme\u00a0Outlaw\u00a0Rides|Wild\u00a0West\u00a0Mustang\u00a0Ranch<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"backcountryhorse.com\" href=\"http:\/\/backcountryhorse.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Back Country Horsemen of America<\/a>\u00a0is a great organization, dedicated to the preservation and promotion of horse access to public lands in the United States of America. Check the site, find the chapter in your area, and become a member. Check out their <a title=\"facebook:bcha\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/bcha.org?fref=ts\" target=\"_blank\">facebook<\/a> page as well. The <a title=\"www.bchu.com\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bchu.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Utah chapter<\/a>\u00a0has a very nice site with a lot of information about horse use on public lands in Utah.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"www.trailmeister.com\/\" href=\"http:\/\/www.trailmeister.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Trailmeister<\/a>, The Horse Rider&#8217;s Resource, is a great website, well-stocked with great information for all of your trail riding needs. The site has the largest directory of designated horse camp sites and trails in the country, organized by state. You can also find transportation regulations by state on the site.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"campingandhorses.com\" href=\"http:\/\/campingandhorses.com\" target=\"_blank\">Camping and Horses<\/a> is a website geared toward creating a directory for camping with horses throughout the U.S and Canada. They have a nice website, and have documented some very nice trail rides. They include good information and pictures of the campgrounds and facilities they visit. There is a blog and forum as well.<\/p>\n<p><a style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\" title=\"horseforum.com\" href=\"http:\/\/horseforum.com\" target=\"_blank\">Horseforum.com<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">\u00a0is a forum on which you can find just about any horse-related information you might want. Give it a try. There&#8217;s something for everybody and a lot of very knowledgeable folks to help you.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"aztrail.org\" href=\"http:\/\/aztrail.org\" target=\"_blank\">The Arizona Trail<\/a> has an excellent website. For members, there is an interactive map that contains tons of great information about the trail. There is a forum and even an online store. Not much information from horse people on the forum, but there are a lot of available contacts for them. They sell a CD with all the topo maps for the entire 800-mile trail, for $15 (+$5 shipping). I bought the CD. It has all the info, except that the maps are very small. I&#8217;m wishing the maps were a larger format, so one could better focus on details of pertinent portions. Plenty worth the money, though.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"greatwesterntrail.org\" href=\"http:\/\/greatwesterntrail.org\" target=\"_blank\">The Great Western Trail<\/a> has a website for the entire trail, however the information is somewhat dated and sparse. There is no information from horse\/mule traffic on the forum, and only poor representations of maps, but there is some contact information available for portions of the trail.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"expeditionutah.com\" href=\"http:\/\/expeditionutah.com\" target=\"_blank\">Expedition Utah<\/a> is a forum where you can find good information about trails and areas in Utah. They don&#8217;t have information specific to horse travel, but most of it carries over pretty well.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a great link for a bulletin board for horse and mule trails. The website is\u00a0<a title=\"horseandmuletrails.com\" href=\"http:\/\/horseandmuletrails.com\" target=\"_blank\">Horse and Mule Trail Guide USA<\/a>. While some of the information is outdated, it is a great resource if you are planning a trip.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a link to the best leather worker forum around. Lots of good information about saddlemaking.\u00a0<a title=\"leatherworker.net\" href=\"http:\/\/leatherworker.net\" target=\"_blank\">Leatherworker.net<\/a><\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2>Suppliers<\/h2>\n<p>Here are links to several outfitters and suppliers of horse packing gear. In particular, they offer a very nice mule saddle, specifically geared toward packers. It is also offered with horse bars on request.<\/p>\n<h2>Blogs and facebook Pages<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">During 2013 and 2014, Anna and Gilles started a horse pack trip across South America. Much of their grip was documented on a facebook page, linked below. I followed with them and continue to have occasional contacts with Anna. What a trip they made! It was inspiring to me. While they have finished their trip and haven&#8217;t updated the page since 2014, it is still up and as interesting as ever to read. Take a look. While I don&#8217;t know the author, he is a member of the Longrider&#8217;s Guild and has maintained his blog since 2008.
